Inspired by the Louvre.
Beneath the museum lies part of the original medieval fortress, built around 1190 by King Philippe Auguste to protect Paris. The massive stone blocks that form its walls still bear carved symbols left by medieval stonemasons. Each symbol was unique to its maker: a personal signature etched into stone. Some symbols were crosses, some diamonds, some… hearts.
This artwork is created from a photograph of one such block; a heart carved into the stone.
